Room Assignment Process

Payment: Proof of a $300 room deposit or financial aid waiver must accompany every housing agreement. No extensions or exemptions can be made. Students may not participate in room selection unless the student's account is paid in full.

Lottery: At the lottery, you will draw a numbered slip from the lottery box for your academic class to determine your rank. All roommates must submit completed agreements and proof of their room deposits to select lottery numbers.

Cancellation: If you participate in the selection process and decide not to live in the Living/Learning Center for the academic year, notify the Assistant Director of Residence Life in writing prior to the first day of class in August. The $300 deposit is non-refundable. Additional penalties will be assessed if the cancellation is made after the first day of classes.

Housing Agreements: Please read your housing agreement carefully as it is binding for a one full academic year period (fall and spring semesters).  All Brottier Hall housing agreements are binding for a 12 months, whether or not you are taking summer classes.

Roommate Change Policy and Procedures

When problems with roommates occur, students are encouraged to make an effort to resolve their conflicts. Before a room change can be made, the following procedure must be followed:

  • Both roommates must meet together with their RA to discuss their concerns.
  • The residents will create a contract with their RA, designed to resolve specific needs/concerns of both roommates.
  • If the differences are still irreconcilable, the residents will meet with the RD to discuss options for room changes.
  • Upon approval, rooms must be inspected by the RA prior to the move. Residents who are changing rooms are responsible for making arrangements to be properly checked out of his/her room, including room inspection by a Resident Assistant. NO ROOM CHANGE MAY BE INSTITUTED WITHOUT FOLLOWING PROPER PROCEDURES OR WITHOUT THE RESIDENT DIRECTOR'S APPROVAL.

Room Consolidation

Residence Life may consolidate students living alone but paying the double occupancy rate at any time in the semester. Consolidation will occur as follows:

  • A student who doesn't have a roommate will be asked to select a roommate, or will be assigned one.
  • The RD of the building will work with students living alone to find compatible roommates.
  • A student who has not voluntarily attained a roommate will be assigned a roommate or asked to move, usually within the same building.
  • Moves will generally occur only within the building.
  • A student who has been reassigned must move within 48 hours of notification (See complete policy for details.)

Single Rooms

There are very few single rooms available and they are charged an additional fee. Students requesting single rooms for medical needs or other reasons must contact the Office of Residence Life. These requests are not guaranteed.
