Visitation Policy

Your roommate must consent to any visitors.

You cannot escort working media into the residence areas without approval of Public Affairs 412.396.6050.

Freshmen:

  • Normal visitation hours are noon to midnight
  • No guests (Duquesne students or others) between midnight and noon
  • Guests of the opposite gender, must sign in prior to midnight, and leave by 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights and before midnight Sunday through Thursday.
  • Guests of the same gender may stay beyond midnight, if they have obtained a guest pass and are signed in prior to midnight.
  • St. Ann's – Residents of the opposite sex may visit during regular hours, but must be accompanied by a St. Ann's resident at all times.
  • St. Martin's and Assumption – No opposite gender upper class visitors after normal hours.
  • May not have opposite sex, upper class residents on their floors, in their lounges or in their rooms after normal visitation hours.

Upperclassmen:

  • No guests between midnight and 8 a.m. (both Duquesne and non-Duquesne students).
  • All guests of the opposite gender, who are signed in prior to midnight, must leave the building by 2 a.m.
  • Residents of the same gender may stay beyond 2 a.m., if they are signed in prior to midnight.

Family Members:

Resident students may have immediate family members, including spouses, as overnight guests with permission of the Resident Director and a roommate's permission.

  • We do not offer housing for family members but the spouse of a married student may live in Brottier Hall with the student.
  • Children under age 5 can visit during regular hours, but not overnight.
  • Same-gender siblings, ages of 5 to 16, can stay overnight. Opposite-sex siblings over age 5 require an overnight guest pass.

Signing In:

Guests must present a photo ID when signing into a residence hall. Hosts must present a valid DU Card, and accompany guests in the LLC (Maximum of 3 guests at any given time within visitation hours.)

Overnight Guests:

  • Hosts should get guest passes in Resident Life offices during regular office hours, Monday- Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. or from the front desk.
  • These passes may be picked up at the appropriate front desk before midnight after they have been approved by the Resident Director/Graduate Student On-Duty.
  • Overnight guest passes will not be issued out after midnight.
  • No more than 2 overnight guests are permitted per room.
  • Maximums: 1 night per week, 1 weekend per month, 2 consecutive days and 15 days during the year.
  • Violations of the visitation policy will result in disciplinary action.
